Are the lessons fun? What will be covered?

Yes — fun is non-negotiable.

Lessons are student-focused and flexible, covering:

  • Fundamentals (tuning, rhythm, technique, scales)
  • Songs students love
  • Books and materials students already have (or we can recommend some resources)
  • Personal goals such as performances or exams

How much should students practise?

We get it — practising is hard when you’re starting.

For beginners, simply:

  • Playing with the instrument a couple of times a week
  • Attempting the teacher’s homework

…is a great place to start.

As students advance, more structured practice will be encouraged to meet their goals.

Even students who rarely practise but enjoy their weekly lesson will still learn and develop skills — progress may just be slower.

Who will my teacher be?

You will know your teacher's name ahead of time and If your child is still nervous, please feel free to "do the first lesson together".

Our Music School Open Days and End-of-Term Concerts are also great opportunities to meet our teaching team.

Sometimes you may not have the best teacher for you, we get it, parents may request a teacher change at any time.

Are there concerts?

Yes — we hold two in-store concerts per year.

  • Performing is optional
  • Free for students to play
  • Rehearsals happen during regular lesson time
  • Audience tickets are charged at a small fee to ensure adequate seating

Details are shared via email and Facebook.

After-hours lessons – how do we get in?

Your teacher will meet you at the after-hours entrance which is locked from the outside.

Please:

  • Do not leave children waiting unattended
  • Be on time for pick-up, as teachers have lessons booked back-to-back

You are welcome to wait inside the lesson room or in the waiting area if preferred.

My child has a disability or is neurodivergent — can they still have lessons?

Absolutely.

We welcome students of all abilities and learning styles. Music and the arts naturally attract a wide range of learners, and many of our teachers and students identify as neurodivergent. We see this diversity as a strength, not a barrier.

Accessibility & facilities

  • Wheelchair access to lesson rooms is available during business hours via our lift
  • A wheelchair-accessible bathroom is available on request

If you or your child have any physical access requirements, please let us know when booking so we can plan accordingly.

Neurodivergent learners

We warmly welcome neurodivergent students, including (but not limited to) those with ADHD, autism, sensory processing differences, anxiety, or learning differences.

Because every child’s support needs are unique, we encourage parents and carers to share any information that may help us support your child effectively. This might include:

  • Learning preferences or sensitivities
  • Communication styles
  • Sensory or movement considerations
  • Strategies that have worked well (or not worked) in other learning environments

This information helps us pair your child with the most suitable teacher and teaching approach and ensures lessons are set up for success from the beginning.

Please discuss any specific needs with our Music School Director when booking so we can thoughtfully plan and support your child in the best possible way.

Can you help with exams, auditions or school assignments?

Yes.

Lessons can include:

  • Exam preparation
  • Audition preparation
  • School music assignment support

We also help guide students through AMEB, ANZCA, Trinity and AGMS (or any other) exams.

Please chat with your teacher for tailored advice.

What if I want to learn something unusual?

If you have an unusual instrument or musical interest (Theremin? Thong-aphone?), get in touch — we’ll do our best to source the right teacher.
