How often do lessons happen?

Usually you book in for a weekly recurring lesson during school term. We also occasionally offer group holiday masterclasses at an additional cost that you/your child can sign up for as an extra.

Where are the lessons?

The lessons are in-store at Buzz Music, located at 467 Mulgrave Rd on the first floor. The music rooms are purpose built and have a side access door for after-hours lessons (if the main store is closed). During business hours, please enter through the main shop doors and walk up the side stairs. We have a wheelchair accessible lift during business hours.

Do I need to bring my own instrument?

If you are learning Guitar or a Band and Orchestral instrument, please bring this along (if you have one!) If you are learning Piano or Drums these instruments are supplied, don't forget any books you are using and your drum sticks. If you are just starting to play and haven't got an instrument yet that is not a problem, just let us know so we can ensure there is a loan instrument ready for the first lesson and we can show you some options to purchase if you want to continue playing.

Are sibling group lessons available? How much are they?

Yes, we offer a 10 week beginner course in particular instruments with up to 10 students.

We also offer small group lessons for siblings or friends as a more affordable alternative to private lessons. These can be arranged when you book in the lessons and start at $30/ student for a 30 minute lesson. No other students will be booked in with you unless you request that. We like to keep these groups small with 2-3 students of similar ability. Please be sure to mention this to our staff during your onboarding to the Buzz Music School.

How do we book lessons?

Our music school coordinator, Leanne, or your teacher, will liaise with you to find a day and time that suits you and then that will be booked in for the remainder of the term. We automatically book you in for the same time and day for following terms but if your schedule changes or you'd like to finish having lessons, you just need to let us know in advance so we can find a different lesson time or book your spot to someone else.

How do I pay for lessons?

All lessons are to be pre-paid monthly by credit card through our online booking portal.

What if I'm not sure if I'm / my child is a musical genius and want to do a trial?

No worries! We want our students to be sure that they are happy with their lessons. We will book you in for 3 lessons after which you can cancel at no further cost, or book in for more lessons. Just let your teacher know and we will take care of the rest.

What happens if I am sick or away?

For any occasional planned missed lessons / school camps / overseas adventures during the music school term, please advise us before that month and we can usually book a lesson in that time for another student. If this is the case you won't be charged for that lesson and it will automatically credit to your account. Unfortunately, if you are sick or away unexpectedly, you will still be charged for your lesson. If your teacher is sick or away you will be notified and credited the lesson.

Can I arrange Online / Digital lessons?

Yes! With the lightning fast internet that is now available in most locations, we are excited to now offer online lessons. You can be anywhere in the world and as long as you have access to an instrument, a webcam and the internet, we can teach you music! These lessons are booked in an hour time slot with 45 minutes being dedicated to the lesson and the other 15 mins being for setting up time and in case of technical difficulties. These lessons start at $70. Please contact us for further information.

I want lessons for my young child, can I sit in on the lesson?

Your first music lesson would no doubt fill anyone with excitement and likely a bit of nervous energy, especially a small child. You are more than welcome to sit in on the lesson; hang out in-store during opening hours; or even drop them off and hit the shops while they have their lesson, whichever suits. During after-hours lessons you are welcome to sit in on the lesson or drop the student off, as the main showroom will be closed.

What other facilities are in store?

During store hours we have disabled/pram access lift up to the first floor, a disabled access bathroom on request, complete with a baby change table. For our customers we can also provide a quiet place for feeding a baby, a microwave and hot/cold water if needed. After hours the closest bathrooms and baby facilities are a 2 minute walk to the Earlville Shopping Centre.

Are the lessons fun? What will be covered?

Of course they are fun! Music should always be enjoyable and our teachers are very flexible to ensure you are learning things that inspire you and to help you reach your musical goals. Our teachers can cover everything from the basics like tuning and scales to whatever songs you'd like to learn and books you want to use (and potentially already have!).

How long until I can play a song? When should I practise?

Music, like anything worthwhile, does require you to practise in between your lessons to improve. We recommend practising for a small amount every day. Our online Music school portal actually has a digital practise log which you can track when and for how long you are practising. If you want to learn a particular song to play at the end of term concert, or another specific event, chat to your teacher and they will work with you towards that goal.

Who will my teacher be? Can we meet them beforehand?

If you have a mini rockstar who is particularly nervous about lessons, we can happily arrange a short meet and greet in store with your teacher. Our Music School Open Days and End of Term Concerts are also a great opportunity to meet the teachers and see what it's all about.

Is there an end of term concert?

Yes, we have an in-store concert on the last Friday evening of the term. There is no pressure to perform and no extra cost involved, just a good opportunity to show your family and friends what you've been working on. Keep an eye on our Facebook for more info.

How do I get in for an after-hours lesson?

Your teacher has access to the building for any after-hours lessons and will meet you at the after-hours door to let you in. Please don't leave your young children waiting alone and please be waiting for them at your lesson end time. Your teacher will likely have another lesson after yours and we appreciate your help in keeping our schedule on time. You are also welcome to wait inside the lesson room during the lesson if you prefer.

My child has a disability, can they still have lessons?

Of course! We have wheelchair access to the lesson rooms during business hours and a wheelchair accessible bathroom. Please discuss any specific needs with our school Co-Ordinator when booking to ensure we find the best teacher for your needs.

What if I want to learn the Theramin or the Thong-aphone?

If you have an unusual instrument request please get in contact and we will endeavour to source you a teacher!
